• Everyday Beauty

    Renee Ruggles

  • Work

"Beauty is everywhere, from the rainbow of colors in our skin, to the personality evoked by the slant of a brow, to the inner glow of a rose petal. I use traditional oil painting to convey modern subjects and also do pastels that depict the myriad textures found in nature."

    Philosophy

"In my Hands series, I explore taboo emotions, such as frustration, depression and even suicidal tendencies. To ignore negative emotion is to stigmatize people who are experiencing devastation. Life isn’t perfect; but, it’s all valid, beautiful, even gorgeous. I believe we lose the Van Gogh’s of this world because we refuse to look at negative emotions or situations. It's as if we think they are catching; or as if, by indulging them, we think we may make them worse. Modern society's insistence on “staying positive” can seem to blame the victims of life’s hardships for their situations. By sharing my own emotional experiences, I hope to help others feel less alone."
